Bangle vs Cuff Bracelet: How to Choose the Right Fit
The difference between a bangle and a cuff is mainly the construction and how it goes onto the wrist. Bangle often describes a rigid bracelet, while cuff often means an open design that goes on through a gap. Names vary, however: bangles can be open or have clasps. Check the actual piece before choosing a size.
This guide compares openings, fit, proportions and wear using real Orrling examples. Browse Bangles & Cuffs when you are ready to compare the creations.
Bangle vs cuff: what should you compare?
| Construction | How it usually goes on | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Closed rigid bangle without an opening | Passes over the hand | Hand clearance and the internal dimensions |
| Hinged or clasped bangle | Opens around the wrist | Fastening, internal dimensions and the model’s sizing instructions |
| Open cuff or open bangle | Goes on through the opening | Gap, shape, orientation and wrist measurements |
These are construction differences rather than rules that every product name follows. Measures of Love Bangle, for example, has an open silhouette. Do not choose only from the label bangle or cuff, and do not assume an open piece is adjustable by bending.
How to measure for a bangle or cuff
Start with the model’s own instructions. Where a size means wrist circumference, measure the wrist in the stated way. A closed bangle that passes over the hand also needs sufficient hand clearance; wrist circumference is not the same as internal diameter.
Open Monogram Frame Cuff uses measured wrist circumference, and the corresponding Orrling size already includes the fitting allowance. Do not add an extra two centimeters yourself. Do not transfer that rule to another model without checking its instructions. Use the bracelet size guide and ask for advice between sizes or for a particular preferred fit.

Reference prices checked November 5, 2026 in SEK. Starting prices refer to the lowest listed variant; your selected size or version may cost more. Check each product for current pricing and order terms. For cufflinks, confirm what is included and whether the price covers a pair. SEK examples are not US-dollar offers.
Open Monogram pricing depends on the selected size. The starting price represents the lowest listed variant, not every size. Open the product and choose your variant for current details.
Which bracelet feels more comfortable?
Comfort depends on your wrist and the piece’s shape, width and balance. Check where the ends or fastening sit while you write, flex your hand or wear a watch. A slender open shape and a broad rigid bracelet can feel different even at the same stated size.
For layering, consider how the pieces move and whether their surfaces rub. Remove jewelry for activities where it could be struck or caught. Follow material-specific care advice and ask the atelier about any adjustment; do not reshape a stone-set or rigid design yourself.
A bangle and cuff buying checklist
- View several angles and establish whether the piece is open, closed or fastened with a clasp.
- Check what the size selection measures: wrist circumference, an internal dimension or a model-specific size.
- Confirm material, stones, dimensions and price for your chosen variant.
- Ask about preferred fit, order timing and whether any size adjustment is possible.

Bangle and cuff questions
Is a bangle always closed?
No. The name is also used for open designs and pieces with fastenings. Read the description and look at the actual construction.
Can I bend a cuff to fit?
Do not assume so. Metal, stones and construction affect what is possible. Ask about the specific model before changing its shape.
Is wrist circumference the same as bangle diameter?
No. Circumference and diameter are different measurements, and a closed design also needs hand clearance. Follow the actual model’s instructions.
Should a cuff bracelet fit tightly?
It should fit as the design intends without pinching or falling off. Confirm the model and your measurements rather than applying a universal extra allowance.
